This video is with local Detroit rap artist Ajax who warmed up for the Mickey Avalon show last month. For a relatively new rap artist the show was a big opportunity for Ajax to strut his stuff in front of a large crowd. If it was a feat to perform this show in front of a local audience, Ajax one-upped himself by playing on the Chicago bill as well. I had no idea what to expect from Ajax, as I’d only heard of him from the show flyer. While Ajax comes across as calm and collected in the interview, onstage he is a dynamo, running back and forth on the stage dispensing rapid fire wraps while high-fiving the audience. He’s also got a trickster on stage with him that throws out glow sticks and causes mayhem. Ajax recently released "Treble Candy" a mixtape you can download for free on datpiff, which serves as a good rundown of his latest material. While on the subject of local rap and hip hop, there will be more of that coming up on MPAD with the second annual Sparkfest, Sat. Aug. 4th at Pike Room and Vernor Room inside of Crofoot. With over 40 acts across 2 stages this will be one huge event and I will be there videoing interviews and performances for you.
