I think I’ve mentioned before that I’m a horror fan. On this episode I feed my inner horror demon by taking my venture to Motor City Nightmares and letting you in on some of the fun I had. I talk to a host of people including several local horror podcasters on the topic of what their scariest movie ever is, and I tell you what movie scared me most. I also interview the one and only, Kyle Gass, one half of Tenacious D, and actor/comedian in movies like Elf. What the hell he was doing at MCN I have no idea? But, he was fun to talk to and even though he may come off in the interview as maybe a bit of a jerk, he was laughing with me as much as he was pulling my chain. Although I think he might have had a chokehold on me at one point. I also let you know what on TV, podcasts and music that I’m checking out. The music I’m playing on this episode features female fronted bands with ominous overtones.

I’ve been in a bit of quandary lately. See I want to let all my friends out there know what I’ve been listening to and watching, but I always feel like I’m late to the party. Here’s my latest example, I watched the Dr. Who premier episode of Season Six last night. I bet you’ve already seen a few hundred blogs, facebook and twitter posts on the subject. Yet, I still feel I have something to write about it, so here it goes.
As a big fan of David Tennet’s Dr. Who it is taking a while for me to accept Matt Smith in the role. He’s okay, but lacks Tennet’s enthusiasm and charm. And, I don’t like the bow tie! Last season was also steeped in DALEKS. So much so,I thought the show was treading in territory I’d already seen too much. Here’s my problem with DALEKS, they are great for the already initiated, but I was trying to get my family to watch with me and they just find the DALEKS too silly to be fearsome. I’m giving Mr. Smith’s Who another chance this season mostly due to his beautiful companion, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan). I think I’m crushing on her even more than I did for Rose and that’s saying a lot. She’s continues to be feisty and winsome this year, although I was a little bit disappointed with her “surprise” announcement at the end of the episode. Let’s just say I wasn’t looking forward to the story to include that arc. For now I’ll keep watching and maybe even drag a family member along with me for the ride. Or at least until we hear the word “Exterminate!”

When I saw Girl Talk on March 3rd at Compuware arena I took a lot of video and some miscellaneous crowd pictures. I looked at the footage and it just didn’t seem to say a lot about the experience of a Girl Talk show. Then, I remembered that I interviewed Girl Talk back in 2008 and Gregg Gillis (GT) had so much good stuff to say that I always wanted to repurpose some of the audio. I spent some time over the weekend piecing together this video to create something that defines the Girl Talk experience of his sound and his show. Btw, I didn’t make it to the Girl Talk show with LMFAO but I am hearing I didn’t miss much.

On this podcast I spend quite a bit of time talking about podcasting and if one can really make a living out of it which people like Kevin Smith and Adam Carolla suggest you can. My point is, well if you’re one of those guys maybe you can, but otherwise, do the podcast for your passion and your want to communicate that passion. I think in my long diatribe that might have actually gotten lost. I should also mention I am in no way dissin’ on K Smith, because I love the guy and his sense of humor. I hope Red State is the great horror movie he says it is because I am really looking forward to it. I also play 5 great tracks this week that I’ve come across the last couple weeks. One of the songs I play is “Big Problem” by ANR and I mention the scary good video for the song, here’s the video so you can watch it yourself:

The video of some of the songs from the "A Classic Education" was so good I thought I'd post an entire song. This is the final song from their perfromance at Pike Room on March 26, 2011. You can see my video onterview with A Classic Education here.

Before I tell something about the band A Classic Education, I’m going to give a bit of classic podcasting education. While I have a lot of listeners for Most People Are DJs, I can’t always get the interviews I would like to. After all what I’m doing is not exactly Rolling Stone. But, what I am able to do, courtesy of my little old podcast, is get close to bands like A Classic Education that are just starting to get their name out in the indie pop hemisphere. A band that except for the song, “Gone to Sea”, and that they are from Italy, I knew little about. As I set up the interview, the more I learned about ACE, the more I liked them. They have this small sound, one could even mistake calling them twee, however, they’d be quickly reprimanded as their songs expand into big crescendos and clamors of brilliance. ACE may be a small band from Italy now, but I think after watching this video you’ll agree with me they are worth seeking out. I’ll also add them to the list of bands I’ve interviewed like the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, who just released their 2nd album and people say things to me like, “they are so cool, I can’t believe you interviewed them.” Yes, I did, it’s one of the things I do best.
This video was created at the Pike Room on March 26th, before British Sea Power took the stage for a great 70 minute set. I want to thank Matt Anderson whom I met at the show for being my cameraman for the interview.
