On the same night of the Hesta Prynn show I took some video of I Love Lightning Bugs that I've been holding to for the past month. I did a video with ILLB back in September, but a lot has changed with the band. They have added keyboard/guitarist, Kate, to the band to help fill in their sound with some great backing vocals and melody. They also have a different drummer, so you could say it's almost a different band, except they still have the moving basslines from Rob and Ried's emotive vocals. They're shaping up to be one of Detroit's best kept secrets that I'm trying to share with this episode. They hopefully have an album coming out in January as I can't wait to play more of them, until them catch them at knerd.com, where all the cool indie bands can be seen and heard. Have a great new year and I'll come back early 2011 with an audio edition of Most People Are DJs and keep pushing out the great indie music and skewed intellect.

I saw Hesta Prynn play on Sunday Nov. 28 at PJs Lager House. This was one of those lucky nights where I brought along my video camera with no intentions and ended up with what I think is one of my better videos. Hesta was in the band Northern State and is now trying a go at a solo career. She has an ep out called "Can We Go Wrong" and you can receive an mp3 of the title track by signing up at her website.Hesta was great, doing the interview in her van where I could actually hear her voice. If you get the chance to see her perform, make sure you do, as you can tell from the video she puts on a great show.

It’s my 250th episode and I guess that pretty cool (see reference on my episode). I was just looking back through my past episodes and came to the realization that I’ve spoken to a lot of great people and it still surprises me who I’m able to sit down with for a conversation. For instance, Girl Talk may be breaking big now with his new release, “All Day” but I interviewed Greg Gillis or Girl Talk about 3 years ago (see MPAD#120). At one time I even had a few words with Billy Baldwin. And yes, I think he was drunk! On this episode, I talk the praises of Ke$ha, (really!) and give some info on each on the bands I play.

On this audio episode of Most People Are DJs we take a journey down a twisted and dark alley. In that alley we get acquainted with Mike E. Clark, the man that provides the beats and riffs to Insane Clown Posse, Boondox and other Psychopathic Artists. Underneath the lyrics of murder and mayhem are the crafty beats that Mike throws together from a production career than spans more than 2 decades. Mike has taken some of his latest material and re-wove it into his Murder Mix vol. II. which he was promoting on the night I interviewed him. During the interview we talk about his work with ICP, growing up as a producer and what music he likes – it’s not what you’re probably thinking. I took some video as well that night so expect to see some MPAD video event in the near future.
Music – ICP – “What Is A Juggalo?” , “I Do This” , and “Miracles”

In this video I try something a bit different, rather than interview the artist, I’m interviewing the fans of the artist. Gary Numan is the perfect artist to try this out on, because, using myself as an example, we’re obsessive freaks about Gary Numan. Which bring me to the other odd thing on the video, me. Since I’m usually filming the video, I don’t the chance to put my ugly mug in it. With this video it seemed odd if I wasn’t in it. If you’re looking for a Gary Numan interview, I did that on MPAD#58, the last time he came to Detroit. This tour Gary performed the complete Pleasure Principle album, celebrating 30 years since the album came out. He also played some of his newer tracks which is when the energy of the show really kicked. Gary has said he never wanted to be one of those aging artists that are caught in the past, so it was interesting to see him take on his older material as the bulk of the show. I think it was easy to tell that his real interest is on his current music and that’s what he puts his heart into. Enjoy the video and let me know what your favorite Gary Numan song is.

Lots to talk about on this week's show, let's start with the movie Catfish. For a movie I didn't really like, I sure am thinking and talking a lot about it. Maybe it's because I still feel ripped off from the manipulative trailer, or maybe, even if I didn't enjoy the movie, the idea and controversy surrounding the film is too compelling to just forget about. I need to watch another documentary to get this one off my mind, any suggestions? I also mention my Most People Are VJs YouTube Channel, go check out the video I took at the Lights show. The interviews from this episode are take from Detroit Fanfare, follow their facebook fanpage to hear announcements about next year's show. Be sure to check out all the artists I interview: Guy Davis, Tim Seeley - read Hack/Slash!, Josh Blaylock - check out the Merch-Girl online comic and see a movie with Brian O Halloran in it.
Ariel's Pink Haunted Graffitti - Round and Round (Littte Loud Remix)
Dead Snares - City Sparks
Crystal Castles (featuring Robert Smith) - Not in Love
Steven Cooper - Seen It All Before
Sunday Girl - Tik Tok

On this week’s Most People Are DJs vidcast edition is the band Amusement Parks on Fire, a shoegaze band from Nottingham, England. I did this video the same night as the Boxer Rebellion on MPAD#244. I didn’t expect to video with APoF , but their performance was so good and they seemed friendly enough to talk to. They were certainly friendly enough which could have had something to do with the amount of alcohol they consumed. If you watch the video you can tell a couple of members were, as they would say, absolutely “juiced up,” which made this video all the more fun to take. If you have even a partial interest in the music in the video, and yes, I know the tracking is a bit off with the vocals, you need to check out “Road Eyes.” It is a brilliant combination of sonic guitars, stellar vocals and beautiful noise. And, yes, it is very heavy.

It's the week before Halloween and this isn't a Halloween themed podcast. I know, I'm bummed out about it too. I've been so busy this month I haven't been able to think about Halloween. I still think you'll enjoy this audio podcast as it has some incredible artists and I think my topics are pretty interesting (or at least they were to me). I talk about my fascination for Gary Numan after having just seen him perform live. Then, I dive into what I bring with me when I travel. What kind of media do I travel with and why. I end talking about the book "Love Is A Mix Tape" by Rob Sheffield, a great book that I can really relate to.
SpleenUnited - Suburbia
Gary Numan - M.E.
LostBoy AKA Jim Kerr - She Fell in Love With Silence
The KickDrums - Perfect World

You ever have a few of those days where everything goes wrong? Don't answer, it's a rhetorical question. Of course you have, everybody hurts, right? I'm trying to fight my way out of a string of those days, car trouble, computer issues, family crap... I keep hoping to wake up and it's November, because October has just been a real struggle for me. The bright spot for me is getting an episode of Most People Are DJs together, and this one is a shiny one because of the quality of the content. The Boxer Rebellion played iLounge on September 28. In front of a crowd of 30 they gave it their best. It has to be a crazy life for a band to do a gig in front on a few hundred one night, and then a paltry classroom size crowd the next night. This is when integrity kicks in and the Boxer Rebellion has that in spades. All around good guys playing brilliant music that evokes both bands that put their heart on the line and their head on the melody. This video is a little documentary that sums them up pretty well. One positive for less crowded shows is the video sure comes out better. Check back with my Most People Are VJs vidcast and you just might catch some more Boxer Rebellion video.
My paid affiliate for this episode is Zazzle, the spectacular place to get your logo put on t-shirts, posters and almost anything else. Zazzle also has a lot of great brand name paraphernalia you can buy as well. It's all super cool and even better when you can save money using my new Zazzle coupon code MOSTPEOPLE12.
