So as I mentioned in my previous blog, I'm changing the format up with more commentary from my on fringe pop culture. Although I'm pretty sure Gossip Girl is not considered fringe, I think it is for the over 40 male demographic. Also, the ratings are so low this year for Gossip Girl maybe it it's more obscure than I think. My other review is for American Psycho 2: All American Girl, most people hate this movie, but I found lots to like about it. music: Absofacto - "Safari" A Place to Bury Strangers - "Keep Slipping Away" Yo Gotti (w/Lil Wayne) - "Women Lie, Men Lie" mentions: Steelers Fan Blinded from Drink Sponsors: mostpeople10 - save 10% any order $50 or more mostpeople12 - save 12% any order $75 or more GoDaddy! new Codes! Given all that, I'm changing the direction of MPAD with the focus more on fringe pop culture - TV, horror, crime, comics etc. I think I've always talked about these topics on the show, but, now the focus will be more on the topics and then the music, rather than the other way around. My goal for the format change is to bring back more interest in my fringe pop culture tastes - or at least some talk around it. I have a new voice comment line - 1-206-666-2616, call and give me your thoughts.

I saw a documentary on No Wave music, called Kill Your Idols on the Sundance Channel not too long ago. It was all about the New York music scene, bands were on it like the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs and older Post Punk bands like 8-Eyed Spy. The music was both interesting and distracting. Well, New York is certainly not alone in the “No Wave” scene as it exists in my hometown of “near Detroit” as well. I shot this video of music and interviews from one night carefully orchestrated by (philosopher and) music writer Jeff Milo. It’s a encapsulated picture of a chaotic and fun night with 4 bands playing No Wave like no one’s else’s business. featuring: Marco Polio and the New Vaccines Sponsors: mostpeople10 - save 10% any order $50 or more mostpeople12 - save 12% any order $75 or more GoDaddy! new Codes! Even though I've never mentioned it, I'll bet you can guess I'm a huge Devo fan - didn't they use to call us "spud boys"? I never got the chance to see Devo live, but, recently I came close. I saw local indie-synth band Silverghost perform as Devo at the Crofoot. They were great playing a set of older Devo material and doing their best impersonations. This MPAD vidcast is a little document of their performance and the what and why.My only regret is I didn't get to do the same with Wildcatting's performance as Talking Heads which was better than seeing Talking Heads - really! Next week, Halloween, one of my favorite holidays is coming. It's a holiday that lasts the whole month. It gives me an excuse to watch scary movies, sit around because it's raining outside and wear a silly costume. I know I've slacked off on putting out podcasts, but I'm not going to lie and say that's going to change, I'm just saying when I get a chance to do an episode I'll do one. This episode I cover a few things like - talking about the Psychedelic Furs and the Happy Mondays, songs that make movies better than they really are and the upcoming Creepy Halloween Party at the Crofoot. music: Electric Tickle Machine - Blew It again Echo and the Bunnymen - Life of 1,000 Crimes Tim Rutili - Dreamless from The Lost Neon Indian - Terminally Chill mentions: Crime and Punishment In Suburbia Creepy Cheapy Halloween Treat - watch the video! One of the bonuses of doing a podcast like mine is I get to re-live moments from shows that I really enjoy and share them with you. I filmed this clip with Iglu and Hartley over a month ago and I forgot what a good time that night was.The video was taken at Phonotropic the Friday event at Vermors Room in Pontiac. Jarvis, the singer was just hilarious to talk with, at one point he had my flip video filming what is at the end of the clip. You don't get much of a vibe for the I&G sound from the video, so check out their full length "& then boom" which was quite the buzz in the UK. What's that they say? "It's better late than never" (which it was beginning to feel like). Welcome to the 200th episode of Most People Are DJs, I've been putting out these podcast episodes for over four years and I'm not sure how many other podcasts I can name that have made it to 200 episodes before fading away. With Most People Are DJs, as long as I keep to subjects I like and have something say about them, I don't see an end in sight. On this episode, I do what I usually do and play indie pop with bit of pop culture talk, but the songs are special because they are by bands I've met along the way of doing my show and they've become my friends. music: Deastro - Spritle Any Day In June - Feathers Champions of Breakfast - Nasy Bunz Charlie Slick - Too Busy for Love Eat Sugar - Pop Singer from "It's Not Our Responsibility" Bank Heist "Bells Ring On" mentions: TV (listen to the Big Red Podcast) Football (listen to ESPN Football Today) be my friend at www.facebook.com/mikel.od.pfeiffer bumpers: Sponsors: mostpeople10 - save 10% any order $50 or more mostpeople12 - save 12% any order $75 or more GoDaddy! new Codes! This video episode features Will and Dan of the band "Zoos of Berlin," a local band with a distinctive sound that separates them from other Detroit acts. Zoos of Berlin play pop music that incorporates elements of jazz, progressive rock and vocal harmonies from Dan and Trevor. They released "Taxis," their first full length with 11 tracks. The interview and video was done at Phonotropic's 2nd Annual "Yessss!....." bash at the Crofoot.
