This week's episode features an interview of Jesse Thorn of the podcast/radio show The Sound of Young America. The Sound of Young America is one of my favorite podcasts, each week Jesse interviews bands, actors, writers, etc. that make my life more interesting. Jesse's interviews are always incisive and full of fun. This episode I put him on the other side of the mic and try to get similar results. I also play music that I think Jesse will dig, but, I'm not sure how successful that turned out. music: MC Chris - Townie Dengue Fever Seeing Hands (mp3) Buy at iTunes Music Store ECID Re-Seeding Skyline (mp3)Buy at Order CD's Directly From ECID's Myspace page mentions: The Sound of Young America some of my favorite episodes: Best of 2007 with Onion AV Club Be Sure to Subscribe to TSOYA! I mentioned the weather last week so I may as well update you, today it's freezing rain and slick conditions. I almost slipped getting my paper this morning! I went to shows both Friday and Saturday night, so today I'm truly calling it a day of rest. I noticed that for the past couple of weeks I got away from playing the quirky, synth driven stuff I've identified MPAD with, so this week it's back with a vengeance. I'm also pulling out a couple of surprises. Besides what on episode, here's what else is going on: 800Beloved warmed up for A Place to Bury Strangers and played a brillinat set, they may have an electronic ep up this week so stay on their path. If you like horror then you have to listen to Dread Media, a great horror podcast that is similar to Sci-Fi Dig but for fans of horror. I had an email of mine read on a previous episode. A Knight Rider for 2008 is on tonight and the Spice Girls sold out the Palace. We've retread so much from the recent past that we're really digging the bottom of the barrel. So let's get intro this week's episode - music: Velvet Code - Trust Fund Girl YACHT See A Penny (Pick It Up) (mp3) iTunes Music Store A Place To Bury Strangers - To Fix the Gash In Your Head The Epochs Opposite Sides (go to their MySpace Blog for the remix ep) DeviantUK - We Have A Technical (this was also covered by the Rentals) Matinee Club Seven Oceans (mp3) Buy at eMusic Johnny Hollow - Nova Heart background music: Micha Moor Slip And Slide Ben Benjamin Selective Periphera audio clip: Gary Numan on finding his first synth mentions: the Zoom H2 Get a website domain from Go Daddy for only $6.95 a year when you use the code DJ3 Next week I'm interviewing Jesse Thorn from The Sound of Young America!

Before I get into the show notes, here's a couple of things I meant to mention but left out: Mojo did a 3 hour radio show on and with Gary Numan, it was a radio stream, but if you search hard enough you can find an MP3 file of it (or you can email me). I've been reading the Captain America Omnibus for the past couple of weeks and I have to say this may be the best comic storyline I've ever read. The pacing, the characters, plots and subplots are so well told that even though I know what lies ahead, reading it unfold, I never get the sense this was done as sensationalism (see One More Day). Lost is finally back on and I can't say I'm immediately hooked, but, maybe a listen to the Ekobase podast will help. 800Beloved is playing the Magic Stick on Friday with A Place to Bury Strangers, if you missed them at the MPAD Showcase here's your chance to see their incredible live show. I'll probably cover this on next week's show. On with the notes from the show: music: The Dead Bodies "Total Destruction" Us vs. Her "In My Pocket" Bob Mould "The Silence Between Us" for PMN Wild Sweet Orange "Wrestle With God" Chase Pagan "Walzting In the Sky" The Great Fiction "Paleego" Manna and Quail "Honestly" Background music: Jon Kennedy 110% Proof (mp3) Demons (mp3)Buy at eMusicmentions: Ok_computer compilation from Mojo Magazine The M&Q show that you need to attend if you're anywhere near the area! sponsor: Get a web domain from Go Daddy for only $6.95 a year when you use the code DJ3

On this episode I interview Robert Wax from Crashing Cairo as he talks about his band's just finished, first CD, former bands he's played in and we yuk it up on pop culture. There's also music from Blood Red Sun, Repeater, the Satin Peaches and Magnet School. The episode is filled with with guitar-based rock songs, heart-felt lyrics, and one ornery dog. If you're in the Detroit area make sure you see Crashing Cairo with Ether Aura, The Satin Peaches and Us Vs. Her on Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at the Magic Bag.
